About Us

A Proud NYC and New Jersey Business since 1999

The Means Language Center was born in 1999. Tom Means founded the school based on his love of languages, teaching and travel. Over the past 20 years the school has gone in many directions, including a “celebrity” roster of companies. For example, we taught Italian to Maserati, Spanish to MTV and English to Mercedes Benz. Today, Tom (aka Professor Means) works at City University of New York, BMCC, but he pops in to say ciao when he can. Today our main focus is on small groups of dedicated students at our location in Asbury Park, New Jersey. We also lead “immersion experience” trips to Italy, Argentina and Manhattan (for ESL).

Traci Attardi – Our Director

Direction of the school took a new turn in 2008 when Tom (PhD, Rutgers) took his first full-time professorship at Marlboro College in Vermont. Since then the school has been run by passionate directors and competent, enthusiastic teachers. We’ve undergone many changes over the years, but one thing has never changed – our commitment to offering quality, task-based language instruction in a small, conversational setting at reasonable prices with native, experienced teachers. We hope you’ll come see what we’re all about!
